General Article Formatting Guidelines


Interested students are invited to attend meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. at the Saber office, located across from Woodall Hall in front of the Clock Tower.

The Saber welcomes letters to the editor from students, faculty and community members. Please email thoughts to CSUSaber@gmail.com

Staff Writers should submit their articles to the most appropriate section editor:

  • Campus Life - CSUSaberCampusLife@gmail.com
  • Arts and Entertainment - CSUSaberArts@gmail.com
  • Community and World News - CSUSaberWorld@gmail.com
  • Sports - CSUSaberSports@gmail.com


  • Headline: 12 pt Times New Roman Bold
  • Subhead: 10 pt Times New Roman Italic
  • Your Name: 12 pt Times Bold
  • Your Position: 10 pt Times Italic
  • Article: 10 pt Times, Justified
  • New Paragraphs: Three spaces as an indentation; do not push tab. Only a single space between sentences.

  • Save file as: Section_Lastname#.doc Example: CampusLife_Smith1.doc Do not save as .docx.

  • Recommended length of 450 words. Articles should be as long as they need to be to convey all important information effectively.

  • Follow the Associated Press Style Guide. Use inverted pyramid and 3rd person for news articles. Include any necessary notes to Layout or Web Editor in parenthesis at bottom of document.

Short Interesting Headline (Title Capitalization)
Longer, more detailed subhead gives extra information (sentence capitalization)
